Four Korean Dramas that You Should Watch If You Haven't Seen Any
#1: What's Wrong with Secretary Kim?
The show aired in 2018 and featured stars Park Seo-jun and Park Min-Young.
The story is about ambitious vice-chairman Lee Young-Joon and his highly capable secretary, Kim
Mi-So.
Problems start to arise when Mi-So announces that she's resigning from her position after working for Young-Joon for nine years. Young-Joon says that he'll do anything he can to make sure that she doesn't quit and for her to stay by his side no matter what.
I found this to be very enjoyable to watch and funny as well when the misunderstandings between the two occur. They also have great chemistry and were glad that this was available on Hulu to watch along with some other dramas.
**Available on Hulu
#2: Descendants of the Sun
This aired in 2016 and starred Song Hye-Kyo and Song Joong-Ki.
A love story between Captain Yoo Si Jin, Korean Special Forces, and Doctor Kang Mo Yeon, a surgeon at Haesung Hospital. Together they face danger in a war-torn country.
They first meet at the hospital after Yoo Si Jin and his friend save a teenager and his friend from gangsters that they owe money to. On that day, he ends up meeting surgeon Mo Yeon and sparks fly.
I liked how it was a heartfelt drama to watch even though it dealt with mines and starving orphans who mistook metal for food. It still gave a sense of reality that what they were dealing with was very serious when an earthquake occurs and they try to save as many people as they can. The chemistry was unforgettable although sadly the Song-Song couple did end up divorcing two years shortly after this show had ended.
**Also available to stream on Hulu
#3: Crash Landing On You
A Netflix original that aired this year featuring Son Ye-jin and Hyun Bin
A South Korean heiress has a paragliding mishap which lands her in North Korea and into the life of an army officer, who decides to help her hide so she doesn't end up dead.
Our protagonist owns a company named Se-Ri's choice and decides to go paragliding one day to ease off her mind from the troubles that she faces every day in her public and personal life. Unfortunately, she ends up in one of the last few places that she wants to end up in which is North Korea.
Each episode I watched with my parents and it brought them a lot of laughter seeing as how Se-Ri's trying to get used to living in North Korea for the time being without the usual niceties such as having electricity on at all times and other things. There are some other moments where I felt her pain as not knowing if anyone cared to know that she was missing and etc.
I can assure you that this show will make you smile and laugh ear to ear 😄
**Now available to stream on Netflix
#4: Oh My Venus
The show aired in 2015 and stars So Ji-sub and Shin Mi-na.
When Kang Joo-eun's boyfriend of fifteen years breaks up with her for gaining weight, she decides to get help from Kim Young-Ho, a great and perfect personal trainer, to get her into shape and turn her life around.
My dad's friend suggested this as one of the shows to watch and I can say there are no regrets at all. Joo-Eun goes about her day and looks forward to celebrating her anniversary with boyfriend Woo-Shik later that night. They have dinner together and talk about work and it's not until they're in his car that he decides to break up with her.
She gets upset at him and then has to deal with the fallout of how he didn't propose to her but rather broke it off with her. She drinks soju and falls asleep and hears about how this woman changed her life around by having John Kim as her personal trainer and managed to achieve her goal of having a fit and toned body.
I found Shin Mi-na to be a lovable character especially with her dimples and that it's a drama that won't ever bore you because you also get to see how she was determined to become a lawyer and also have that same determination/motivation to work out every day no matter what it was.
**Available on Hulu
